Laura Riding:
Poet and Publisher

This exhibition focuses on the work of Laura Riding (later Laura Riding Jackson), a poet, critic, and co-founder of the Seizen Press. Through our new acquisitions, the Bentley Rare Book Museum presents an exhibit that traces the development of Riding's writing and includes examples of Seizen Press books, highlighting its beautiful aesthetic and attention to detail.

The exhibit also situates Riding's work within the broader Fugitive and Agrarian literary movements, which are well-represented in the Bentley Rare Book Museum collection. Riding was the only woman invited to participate in the Fugitive literary group, and briefly participated prior to relocating to New York and later to England and Spain. The Bentley is actively collecting Fugitive and Agrarian works, so make sure to check with us often to see our new acquisitions!
