AIR Serenbe nurtures critical moments of imagination. Filmer brings to life the untapped creative energy of emerging and established Georgia filmmakers by pairing them with high caliber artists from all over the country. In this match up, they commissioned filmmakers to make an original short portrait film that illuminates something of the artist’s person and process, including 2018 artist-in-residence Sarah Hobbs, who worked with the Bentley collection for the 2018 Volumes Residency Project.

The Bentley Rare Book Museum partners with AIR Serenbe to present 2018 artist-in-residence Sarah Hobbs for a special artist talk and walkthrough as part of the Volumes Residency Project. Hobbs' artistic interpretation of marginalia for this project, inspired by the collections in the Bentley Rare Book Museum, pushes beyond the idea of simply reading rare books and instead focuses on the experience of rare books. Hobbs' work examines how marginalia serves as evidence of active, intentional interactions with books. Rather than viewing marginalia as a defacement of books, Hobbs presents marginalia as human engagement with the printed word and as a meaningful form of art.
